There are many ways to get involved, from one-time projects to ongoing opportunities that help us preserve and share Glendora’s history while also creating new ways for the community to gather, learn, and make memories together.

Castle Maintenance Assistant

Rubel Castle is seeking a dedicated and handy Volunteer Castle Maintenance Assistant to aid in the ongoing preservation and upkeep of this unique historic landmark. This hands-on role works under the direction of the Castle Manager providing essential support for construction, preservation, and general maintenance projects.

Key Duties Include:

• Assisting with various hands-on projects, repairs, and light construction tasks.

• Helping maintain a clean, organized, and safe working environment.

• Taking photos and documenting all historic preservation projects for archival records.

• Follow directions and abide by preservation best practices.

This position requires the ability to perform physical labor and follow instructions, offering a unique opportunity to directly contribute to the legacy of Rubel Castle.

Flag Steward at the Glendora Museum

The Volunteer Flag Steward is responsible for managing the display of the American flag in front of the GHS Museum, ensuring adherence to the U.S. Flag Code. This position requires commitment to monitoring official email notifications for immediate orders from the President or Governor to lower the flag to half-staff. The Flag Steward must be able to commit to being on-call to promptly access the flagpole to execute the protocol change within the required time frames, thus honoring significant national and state observances.

Docent Assistant at Rubel Castle

The Glendora Historical Society is seeking enthusiastic and creative Gift Shop Volunteers to run the shop during tours at Rubel Castle. If you enjoy engaging with the public and utilizing your creative skills, this is a unique opportunity to immerse yourself in the Castle environment while supporting the Historical Society’s mission. Key Responsibilities Include:

• Customer Engagement: Warmly welcoming tour participants and providing assistance with merchandise.

• Sales & Transactions: Accurately processing sales (training provided).

• Merchandising & Display: Maintaining attractive, clean, and organized product displays.

Flexible shifts are available on both weekdays and weekends, and all necessary training will be provided.

Castle Maintenance Assistant

The Volunteer Docent Assistant is sought to support guided tours at the Rubel Castle. This vital role ensures the logistical success and safety of the tour experience, requiring the volunteer to be present during scheduled tours (typically 2.5hour max shifts). Core duties include:

  • Checking in tour participants and ensuring everyone has completed a liability waiver.

  • Following the tour and serving as the designated sweep, ensuring all buildings are locked up securely behind the group.

  • Assisting tour participants with questions and navigation throughout the Castle grounds.

Docent Assistants enjoy the unique benefit of attending tours for free, gaining an insider's look at the Castle, and hearing fascinating stories about Michael Rubel's life and construction endeavors.
